I Didn't Know That! The Rensselaer County Blog

The Hart Cluett Museum (HCM), found in 1927 as the Rensselaer County Historical Society, has a diverse collection of two- and three-dimensional artifacts related to Rensselaer County’s long history, acquired through both donation and purchase. There are new additions almost every day. Our mission is to enrich the present and advocate for the future by bringing the region's past to life, recognizing every face and every story. Our collections reflect this mission.

As part of the process of cataloguing collection objects, HCM staff and volunteers seek to learn as much as possible about each object - its provenance, context, and history. We learn something new every day and with every object.

This blog seeks to share some of this new information while revealing the amazing diversity of our shared history. Some posts will discuss items currently on exhibit, others will deal with new acquisitions or topics that we are examining in our current programming. Each post will shed light on new and interesting topics about the history of Troy and Rensselaer County.
