New Walking Tour! Explore the Beman Park Neighborhood

This tour will meet at Beman Park, on the corner of 15th Street and Peoples Ave.
Join Rensselaer County & Troy City Historian Kathy Sheehan for a tour of the Beman Park neighborhood. Explore the neighborhood of Beman Park, from 15th Street to Burdett and from the park to Sage Avenue, we will discuss the history of the park’s beginning in the 1870’s when John G. Sherry donated the land in honor of First Presbyterian Church minister Nathan Beman, to the early 20th century contributions of Garnett Douglas Baltimore, the first Black graduate of RPI and noted architect Stanton P. Lee. We will also discuss the growth of Samaritan Hospital from when it when it moved from 8th Street to the eastern end of the park in 1914, and the Eddy family’s contributions.
