THE VIEW FROM HERE: Peoples of the Rensselaer County Region

Guest curator Siobhan Quinn, PhD, explores the diverse and often untold history of Rensselaer County’s migrants and immigrants, from the original Mohican inhabitants to the Gilded Age European immigrants seeking a better life among the bustling industry of Troy. The View From Here builds on foundational works written by Rensselaer County’s earliest historians and augments them with detailed primary source analysis and remarkable artifacts from the Hart Cluett Museum’s permanent collections. As they explore the exhibition, viewers are encouraged to consider how histories are written, what questions remain, and whose voices are still waiting to be found.

This exhibit invites you to become the historian, studying our long and storied history from below as well as from above.
