Summertime in Rensselaer County is a time to get out and explore!

The Hart Cluett Museum has an exciting array of programs for all ages— bring a friend to visit the galleries, take a tour, play some music, see a ValleyCats Baseball Game, and enjoy the season.

Rain or shine, there is fun to be had and history to discover at the Hart Cluett Museum!

JUNE

June 12 | Writers Workshop with Amy Halloran

6:00-8:00pm

Our everyday lives evaporate, but writing remains. This workshop is a reflection on the impressions we leave behind, and an inspiration to begin or deepen habits of journaling. Using diaries, handwritten notes in cookbooks and other records from the HCM collections, we will step into a few lives, and consider the facts they chose to save.

Follow in the footsteps of the popular HBO series as we explore the many buildings and streets in the historic district that were used in filming Seasons One and Two of The Gilded Age. Behind the scenes stories will be shared as we look at the grand buildings and streetscapes that became the backdrop for this series set in 1882.

June 14 | Path Through History Weekend

Stop by the Hart Cluett Museum and other local sites to be a part of June’s Path Through History Weekend! The Hart Cluett Museum will be offering a history scavenger hunt all day!

June 18 | People, Places, & Progress Walking Tour

Visit sites of activism in Troy, discover how generations of residents have fought for progress and change in civil rights and the ongoing struggle for justice.

June 21 | Suzuki Strings, Make Music Day Troy

1:00-2:00pm

Suzuki Community Strings will take part in Make Music Day Troy! Join in at the Hart Cluett Museum for a joyful, collaborative performance. This group jam will feel like a large group class, and all string players are welcome to participate—whether you’re playing the full set list or just a few pieces. We'll share music, improvise, harmonize, and listen together.

June 26 | Historian Talk

Learn about urban renewal in our area with Rensselaer County and Troy City Historian, Kathy Sheehan.

June 27 | People, Places, & Progress Walking Tour

6:00-7:00pm

Visit sites of activism in Troy, discover how generations of residents have fought for progress and change in civil rights and the ongoing struggle for justice. The museum galleries will be open late until 8pm for Troy Night Out on Friday, June 27th.

JULY

July 17 | Bakery Walking Tour with Amy Halloran

5:30-7:30pm

Amy Halloran will be giving a two-part talk on mapping bakeries in Troy. Beginning with a tour of a house that was a small bakery for nearly a century, we’ll reconvene at HCM for a discussion of the big and small bakeries of Troy.

July 18 | ValleyCats Game

Come join HCM at a Tri-City ValleyCats game! Watch Troy City and Rensselaer County Historian, Kathy Sheehan, throw the first pitch and enjoy a summer evening with friends and family at the ball field.

AUGUST

August 21 | Beers, Bikes, & Barges Tour

6:00-8:00pm

This tour takes riders through the neighborhoods of Troy. Stops on the tour highlight the history of immigration, engineers and industry that shaped the canal, and breweries that were cultural centers. The tour will end at Brown’s Brewery, where you can enjoy a beer and take in the views of the Hudson River from the deck.
